Cipro Information :
Uses :
Ciprofloxacin is used to treat or prevent certain infections caused by bacteria. It is recommended for the treatment of infections of the skin, bones, joints, abdomen (stomach area), prostate (male reproductive gland), infectious diarrhea (diarrhea that causes severe diarrhoea), typhoid fever (a serious infection that is common in developing countries), and pneumonia.
‘Ciprofloxacin’, the antibiotic contained in Ciprofloxacin, is bactericidal in nature and acts by eradicating bacteria that cause infections. It stops bacteria from proliferating. It also prevents bacteria from repairing themselves. It eliminates the bacteria all together.
You should take ciprofloxacin tablets for the recommended amount of time and dosage as prescribed by your physician. It should ideally be taken at a set time, with or without food. Even if you feel better, make sure you complete the entire course of treatment and don’t miss any doses. To make up for a missed dose, never take two doses at once. Just take the subsequent dose as scheduled.
Precautions & Warnings :
If you are allergic to ciprofloxacin or have experienced a severe reaction to it or any other quinolone or fluoroquinolone antibiotic, including delafloxacin, gemifloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and ofloxacin, avoid using ciprofloxacin. The likelihood of tendinitis, or swelling of the fibrous tissue connecting a bone to a muscle, and tendon rupture, or tearing of the fibrous tissue, may increase if you take Ciprofloxacin. Notify your physician of any kidney, heart, or lung transplants you currently have or have ever had, kidney disease, epilepsy, rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune disease of the joints that causes pain, swelling, and loss of function), seizures, or if you engage in regular physical activity.
Ciprofloxacin use may exacerbate myasthenia gravis, a neurological disorder that results in muscle weakness, and increase the risk of death or severe breathing difficulties. Ciprofloxacin and dairy products should be avoided together. Ciprofloxacin should also not be taken in direct sunlight as this may increase phototoxicity or photosensitivity. Before taking Ciprofloxacin, patients with epilepsy and irregular heartbeats (particularly those with QT prolongation) should notify their doctor.
