Renova Information :
Uses :
The purpose of this drug is to treat acne. It might lessen the frequency and intensity of acne breakouts and encourage the prompt healing of those that do occur. Tretinoin is a member of the retinoid drug class. It functions by influencing skin cell growth.
Both before and after using tretinoin, wash your hands. Try to clean and dry the area of skin that is affected before using it. Avoid washing the treated area after applying tretinoin because it may irritate the skin. In addition, wait at least an hour after using Tretinoin before using any other skin care products. After cleansing the face with a gentle soap, pat dry. Once a day in the evening, take a tiny pearl-sized amount of Tretinoin on your fingertip and apply it to the clean, dry affected area. Steer clear of getting Tretinoin in your mouth, nose, eyes, ears, or vagina. If Tretinoin inadvertently comes into contact with these areas, thoroughly rinse with water.
Precautions & Warnings :
Please let your doctor know if you have an allergy to tretinoin or any other medications. Stop using Tretinoin and see a doctor if skin irritation, redness, burning, or stinging gets worse where the application was made. It is recommended that you speak with a doctor before using tretinoin if you are a nursing mother, pregnant, or intend to become pregnant. Tretinoin may cause skin to become more sensitive to the sun, so when you are outside in the sun, avoid being in the direct sunlight, apply sunscreen lotion, and wear protective clothing.
Applying more Tretinoin than is recommended will not produce faster or better results; instead, it will cause peeling, noticeable redness, and discomfort to the skin. When using Tretinoin with medicated or abrasive soaps, cleansers, shampoos, astringents, high alcohol content products, electrolysis, hair depilatories, waxes, or topical medications, exercise caution as these combinations may exacerbate skin irritation.
Side Effects :
As soon as the medication is applied, you might experience warmth or stinging. During the first two to four weeks of using the medication, skin redness, dryness, itching, scaling, mild burning, or worsening of acne are possible side effects. Continued use usually results in a decrease in these effects. For extremely dry skin, use a moisturizer during the day (see Notes). Notify your pharmacist or doctor right away if any of these side effects persist or worsen.
Recall that your doctor has prescribed this medication because they believe it will benefit you more than it will cause negative side effects. Many users of this medication report no significant adverse effects.
In the event that you experience any serious side effects, such as skin discoloration, severe burning or swelling of the skin, blistering or crusting of the skin, immediately notify your doctor.
Rarely, this medication can cause a very serious allergic reaction. However, if you experience any of the following signs of a serious allergic reaction, get medical attention right away: rash, breathing difficulties, severe dizziness, itching or swelling, especially in the face, tongue, or throat.
This is not an exhaustive list of all potential adverse effects. Speak to your physician or pharmacist if you experience any side effects that are not on this list.
Interactions :
Tretinoin may interact with the following medications: methyl aminolevulinate, photosensitizing agents (aminolevulinic acid, methoxsalen, porfirmer, verteporfin), keratolytic agents (benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur), antiseptic (resorcinol), retinoids (isotretinoin).
Notify your doctor before using Tretinoin if you have eczema, which is characterized by itchy, swollen skin, or any other skin condition.
Overdose :
If someone has overdosed and is experiencing severe symptoms, such as unconsciousness or difficulty breathing, call 911. If not, immediately contact a poison control center.
Missed Dose :
Try to take it at the same day every day. Do not double the dose if missed.
Storage :
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
